"It was the result of a long-term vision and personal journey," she said.

Like many respondents to the Business Owner-RACV Business Insurance Small Business Issues Survey, she is working more hours than she ever did for a boss.

But she is loving it.

"I don't see it as work at all," she said.

While it would have been great to follow her dream earlier, the time was not right.

Ms. Ribinskas said she first did her business plan for Yoga Concepts 15 years ago but was prepared to wait.

Ms Ribinskas said when she first dipped her toe into running her own business she started off part-time.

She started a class and when that was full she started more.

"It all takes time... I started off with one class and then took bite-sized pieces," she said.

Along the way it turned into a full time job.

While there is much talk about how interest rate rises and increasing petrol prices will affect discretionary spending, Ms Ribinskas was confident her business could weather any downturn.

"My classes leave people feeling empowered... they would sooner spend $16.25 on one of my classes and have one less bottle of wine," she said.

The business offers classes and personal development and she delivers a range of services to corporate clients interested in fostering health and wellbeing of employees.

She also said the timing was right not only for herself but the type of service she offered.

She believed there was a greater push for people to maintain their own health and wellbeing.

Initially she rented a room and as time went on expanded to take on more space. She decided to launch the business in Richmond because it was accessible and had a diverse demographic.

She said her business development background helped build the business

Like many small businesses she did not have a big marketing budget, but a combination of a good flyer, the internet and word-of-mouth referrals have helped the business.

Ms Ribinskas said it was great to do something you were passionate about.

When she saw people at the supermarket on a Friday evening who were delighted to be at the end of their working week she was often embarking on a busy weekend of classes.

"I think it is a divine gift to be able to do what you love," she said.

She said a typical Sunday could see her working more than 12 hours.

While she was the sole proprietor she outsourced work to trained contractors when the need arose.

Ms Ribinskas said managing the demands of the business and life were easy because she practises the techniques she teachers.
